Obesity Trends in America
The prevalence of obesity and overweightness is frightening. We are growing fatter by the minute.
Even infants are increasingly overweight since I last blogged about this. New research published Aug. 9, 2006 in the journal Obesity shows that no age groups, even infants under 6 months old, are immune to this trend.
Dr. Matthew Gillman, senior author of the study and professor at Harvard Medical School found startling evidence between 1980 and 2001. In infants under 6 months, the prevalence of being overweight increased from 3.4% to 5.9%, a jump of more than 73%.
See it for yourself. For the past 20 years the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has tracked the rise of adult obesity. Advance each slide to view. This slide show is best viewed if saved to your hard drive.
