Protein Reduces Hunger

Fresh news reiterating a key point of my nutrition philosophy; as seen in my book. Protein leads to satiety (or the feeling of fullness and absence of appetite after a meal).
According to the latest research, a natural weight-loss hormone (PYY) is released in the body upon consuming a diet rich in protein foods and may lead to less total calories eaten.
Less total calories eaten by an individual can result in a calorie deficit, thus resulting in weight loss.
In other words: eat more protein (in place of some high calorie carbs), feel fuller, and lose weight.
Lead researcher Rachel L. Batterham, M.D., states: "We've now found that increasing the protein content of the diet augments the body's own PYY, helping to reduce hunger and aid in weight loss."
As researchers delve into the possibilities of where this originated, they look to our ancestors and nature:
The prehistoric humans whose genes we inherit had a different diet than we do. They got 19 percent to 35 percent of their energy form protein and 22 percent to 40 percent from carbs. Our modern diet gets 49 percent of its energy from carbs and only 16 percent protein.
"One potential weight loss strategy is therefore to increase the satiating power of the diet and promote weight loss through the addition of dietary protein-harnessing our own satiety system." Batterman says. "Such a diet is perhaps more typical to that of our hunter-gatherer ancestors."
You see folks, we can control our weight naturally with food. There is simply no need for starvation diets, destructive drugs, or some crazy vaccination for obesity (researchers are hard at work on this one).

I remember reading once that food should be considered our drug. Our drug of choice since we are what we eat. I think protein is a "thumbs up" drug that we should all start popping!
