Why All the Hype Over Trans Fats?


   Trans fats lead to more fat gain than other fats.  They are also known to raise bad cholesterol (LDL) and lower good cholesterol (HDL) in humans.

"Trans fat has a very powerful association with weight gain - more so than other types of fat.  We know it's good to get rid of it for your heart health and now we know it's good to get rid of it in terms of your weight," says lead author Alion Field, an associate professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

   Trans-fats should be avoided whenever possible to reduce your risk of heart disease and excess weight gain or obesity.
