Scientists Clone Gene to Bring Wheat Back to it's Natural State

Wheat breeders have cloned a gene from wild wheat that will boost the protein, zinc, and iron content of domesticated wheat.  Apparently, the results were spectacular.

The cloned gene, designated GPC-B1 for its effect on Grain Protein Content, accelerates grain maturity and increases grain protein and micronutrient content by 10 to 15 percent in the wheat varieties studied so far.

Domestication of wheat has lead the nonfunctioning of this gene and the reintroduction of the functional gene from the wild species has potential to decrease deficiencies in protein and key micronutrients around the world, which is noted by the World Health Organization to effect more than 2 billion people.

Seems that science is attempting to undo the damage and destruction that our industrialized society demands.

Just another story supporting my argument of eating foods that are closest to their natural state.
