Melanoma is NOT Caused By Sun Exposure

Melanoma and other cancers are the result of a myriad of factors and to say that melanoma is a direct result of sun exposure is simply absurd.

As a former melanoma patient, I am concerned about the sun and my potential to develop skin cancer again.   But, on the other hand, I do not want to miss out on the incredible health benefits of vitamin D.

Interestingly, recent findings from Stanford University School of Medicine conclude that melanoma is actually caused by immune system dysfunction.  Scientists have long known that immune system problems were prevalent among cancer patients but, until now, they didn't know which pathways were the root of the problem.

Scientists hope to use this information to create vaccines for different types of cancer.

I am not interested in the vaccine, but I believe this information is satisfactory to reinforce that the recommended 10 minutes of sun exposure over one's hands, arms, and face three times a week is safe.

I can promise you that the Food and Nutrition Board at the Institute of Medicine is being cautious about this subject, so I'm advising our customers to use caution when supplementing with extra Vitamin D.
