Hallelujah Sunshine!
Vitamin D is headlining the news again. New research published this month determined that supplementation with vitamin D produces an astonishing 60 percent reduction in all cancers in women, making it the single most effective medicine for preventing cancer that has ever been discovered by modern medical science.
"The findings ... are a breakthrough of great medical and public-health importance," said Cedric Garland, a prominent vitamin D researcher at the University of California, San Diego. "No other method to prevent cancer has been identified that has such a powerful impact."Athletes rejoice. Vitamin D is actually a steroid hormone that works in much the same way as testosterone. A well trained athlete will reap profound increases in speed, balance, reaction time, muscle mass and strength through supplementation.
But, unlike testosterone and growth hormones, vitamin D is all natural and acquired as a direct result of sun exposure, foods, and supplementation. It is also not considered "doping" if you increase your intake of it.
I suggest a minimum of 1,000 IU each day along with a healthy dose of sunshine and foods that are high in vitamin D such as salmon, tuna, eggs, beef, milk, cheese, and (my favorite) liver.
