Obesity is Costly for ALL

Canada has invested in a specially equipped ambulance and "bariatric response team" that will transport patients weighing 400 lbs. - 1,000 lbs. "in a dignified and safe way while protecting paramedics from injury."
The modifications cost $27,915 and include a hydraulic lift and a really cool air mattress that blows air out of tiny holes to slightly lift patients off the mattress (kinda like an air hockey table) making it easier to move them around. Oooh, where do I get one of those???
This truck will be staffed with 4 - 6 medics per each call.
I'm sorry, but as I see it our out-of-control obesity epidemic is straining our society with much more than the obvious disability claims, costly special treatments, and rampant disease.
It's sad that so many people are engulfed in destroying themselves rather than moving forward and living life to its fullest potential.

Wow, thats a lot of money...and medics, and it is sad that society has to suffer over an easily treatable epidemic.
