Freaky Green Blood from Prescription Drugs

Has Mr. Spock come to earth?

Some guy took so much prescription medication that it turned his blood green!  Obviously there's more to this guy's story than the color of his blood.

Come to find out, the 42 year old Canadian man is a smoker whose medical history includes several prescription drugs taken on a regular basis and in excess.

Apparently, he feel asleep in a seated postilion which resulted in what is known as compartment syndrome in both legs.  This is a dangerous condition and warranted urgent limb saving surgery.

In the operating room for this procedure, doctors performed multiple attempts to insert a arterial catheter only to be shocked at discovering their patient was oozing dark green blood.  They immediately sent the blood for analysis.

The next day, the lab reported it had detected sulfhemoglobin, a condition thought to be triggered by some medications...

The man's green blood was ruled to be caused by taking higher-than-advised doses of his migraine medication, sumatriptan.
