Why Thinness is NOT a Measure of Health

Measuring one's body fat percentage or waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) are proving to be more accurate predictors of an individual's health than the standard body weight or body mass index (BMI) measurements. As a matter of fact, we are seeing that people with even a small pot belly are at risk of heart disease.
Problem is, some people appear to be thin and seemingly healthy on the outside but all the while they may have elevated body fat percentages due to fat that is stored internally. This is known as being "skinny fat" and it is a major health risk.
According to the data, people who maintain their weight through diet rather than exercise are likely to have major deposits of internal fat, even if they are otherwise slim....Skinny fat people typically practice calorie restriction, snicker at those who employ vigorous weight training, and frown upon using their bodies for anything other than creating a surreal outward appearance of thinness.
...The fat enveloping internal organs might be sending the body mistaken chemical signals to store fat inside organs like the liver or pancreas. This could ultimately lead to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, or heart disease...Frankly, I find that these people wonder aimlessly through life seeking attention and approval from an uncaring world. Sadly, they are only hurting themselves, their health, and their friends and family members that have to put up with their illusions on a daily basis.
..."Normal-weight persons who are sedentary and unfit are at much higher risk for mortality than obese persons who are active and fit," said Dr. Steven Blair, an obesity expert at the University of South Carolina...
..."If you just want to look thin, then maybe dieting is enough," Bell said. "But if you want to actually be healthy, then exercise has to be an important component of your lifestyle."Come on gals...quit looking in the mirror, pick up some heavy weights and employ some good old fashioned workout intensity, get fit, get strong, get healthy, and get a life.
