You Should Limit Your Carbohydrates if You Want to Save Your Sight

Dr. Mercola wrote this great article explaining the relationship between diets high in carbohydrates and age-related vision loss.  Though vision loss is not caused by aging, it can accompany aging if poor nutation habits render the eyes diseased.

Eye sight loss, muscle loss, bone loss...you name it and we (society, Big Pharma, and governmental agencies) quickly blame it on "old age" as it's cause.  But, more and more I am convinced that it is not age at all, yet our foods that give us these diseases.  It happens in old age because the effects are commulative, built up over time, and thus the worst effects are seen after time or in older ages.
It has been shown that age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic eye disease both demonstrate the same ill pathways to their development; that being from a diet rich in high glycemic carbohydrates.

Diets high in carbohydrates that are quickly digested and absorbed, such as white bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, sugars and corn syrups are also suspected of being involved in the vision loss that sometimes accompanies diabetes.

The type of damage to eye tissue produced by these “fast” carbs could be similar in both AMD and diabetic eye disease.

Natural healthy eating is your ticket to prevention and treatment of this disease.
It has been found that people who eat large amounts of fruits and vegetables have a 43 percent risk reduction of age-related macular degeneration.
Want more proof that age is not the determining factor of health?  Check out Art De Vany as a proof of concept, "Aging research is flawed; it is not the aging process but the poor eating and lack of exercise that is responsible for the general decline we often see with aging."

Dr. Mercola has a short list of supplements for prevention in his comments to check out.  I must reiterate the importance of fish oil, a daily dose of sunshine and vitamin D each day, and a focus on whole foods that are closest to nature such as whole eggs, steak, and salmon for preventing most diseases and ailments.
