Forever Hungry
I've written about this in the past, as there's overwhelming evidence to support how a higher protein diet works to suppress hunger.
The new study, to appear in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM), examined different food's abilities to suppress our body's appetite stimulating hormone (ghrelin).
Researchers found that eating fat left the hormone elevated, protein resulted in the greatest suppression of the hormone, and carbohydrate ingestion resulted in an initial suppression only to be followed by a rebound effect and stimulated the hormone to be released well above its original level.
In other words, eating fat doesn't curtail hunger, carbohydrates temporarily reduce hunger - but are followed by elevated hunger, and protein suppresses hunger.
Think about it. What would you eat if you wanted to get fat? Cookies, cakes, pies, ice cream, and candy, right? But, the bottom line is they make you hungry, nutrient deficient, and fat.
That's not you!
