I Had Melanoma, But Sunshine Is My Friend

The NYTimes expresses great concern of breast fed babies that are vitamin D deficient and showing signs of ill health rickets.
Some doctors and public health officials say conditions may be ripe for rickets to re-emerge: more infants are being breast-fed for extended periods, children are drinking more juice or soda and less milk, and they are spending less time exposed to sunlight, which enables the skin to synthesize vitamin D.In other words, because mom is vitamin D deficient, so is child. This can be avoided by getting the recommended sun exposure and supplementing with vitamin D.Children with dark skin, like Aleanie, who is African-American, appear to be at even greater risk for rickets because they do not synthesize vitamin D through the skin as easily as those with light skin.
The overuse of sunblocks and sunscreens, plus the anit-sun hysteria dreamt up over 10 years ago is drowning us in vitamin D deficiency which, in turn, promotes ill health, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, cancer, and causes (often undetected) rickets. And remember, melanoma is actually caused by immune system dysfunction, which you can read about it here.
Use a common sense approach to health. Get your daily exercise, eat healthy, and let the sun shine over your hands, face, and arms for 10 min., 3 times a week. Your body will thank you for it in more ways than a simple tan.
