A Word of Wisdom From My Functional Friend

My friend Karen and I have a lot in common. From the outrageously intense workouts to tie-dyes and Harley rides, we share many the same ideas, likes, and dislikes.
I don't follow fads - fad diets, fad exercises, fad lifestyles. I think about what I need to accomplish, I educate myself, and mostly, I work out with total intensity...

...Upper body is a cinch. My core is tight and small, and unlike 90% of the women I see every day, my upper body consists of a small waist (size 2 - 3), and wide shoulders and upper back ....... that is, shoulders wider then the waist, which is how it was meant to be. The current (and accepted) look is wide waistline, and narrow, slumped shoulders, with rolls of fat lining the back. Horrendous and unhealthy. My arms and chest are chiseled, and when I ride with my female cycling friends (who are pure cyclists), I note their upper bodies carry lots of fat, and they are soft, mushy, and weak. They need to add resistance training for best results, but they won't because they listen to the age-old "wisdom." They do too much riding at too slow a pace, and they eat way too many carbs, grains, pastas, and breads. After all, it's not the burger that makes you fat - it's the bun. But also, cycling, and only cycling, produces one-dimensional un-fitness.
Read and learn for yourself. Then, do what you love, for what you love to do will get you the best results.
