A Diet That Maintains Muscle Mass Turns You Into a Fat-Burning Furnace

Listen to this excellent podcast by Dr. Donald Layman.
Dr. Layman discusses many aspects of nutrition research and maintained that a higher amount of protein (and reduced carbs) at each meal gives one the ability to lose more body fat and maintain lean mass. Specifically 30 grams of protein per meal had this effect. This higher protein, lower carb diet proved to induce favorable blood lipids as well, such as a decrease in triglycerides and an increase in HDL (good cholesterol).
When you consider that muscle burns fat and boosts your metabolism, you will realize that the maintenance of you muscle mass is of paramount value to losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Protein increases satiety and thermogenesis, increases fat oxidation (usage), improves preservation of lean mass, and leads to a decrease in total energy (calorie) intake.
So yes, you're right in liking meat!
