Put Down That Spoon, What's The 10 Worst Cereals?

Cereal may be convenient, but it is far from healthy. First of all, it is a grain and humans are not equipped to digest grains; hence the plethora of autoimmune diseases, gluten allergies, obesity, diabetes, and general sickness of the world.

Cereal, donuts, and even bagels are nothing more than sugar - like eating candy - for breakfast. Does that sound reasonable? How does an extreme rise in blood sugar, followed by a raging river of insulin, to create an onslaught of damage on your cells fist thing in the a.m. sound? Those of you with insulin resistance or diabetes are going to be sick right away,...nice way to start you day, Hugh?

According to Cereal FACTS (Food Advertising to Children and Teens Score), which was developed based on the best available science, in consultation with a steering committee of experts in nutrition, marketing, and public health, the 10 worst breakfast cereals based on nutrition score are:

  1. Kellogg - Corn Pops (or Pops) - Chocolate Peanut Butter
  2. Quaker - Cap'n Crunch - w/ Crunchberries
  3. Kellogg - Special K - Chocolatey Delight
  4. Kellogg - Special K - Blueberry
  5. General Mills - Reese's Puffs
  6. General Mills - Fiber One - Caramel Delight
  7. Kellogg - Cocoa Krispies - Choconilla
  8. General Mills - Golden Grahams
  9. General Mills - Cinnamon Toast Crunch
  10. Kellogg - Corn Pops

That is the worst you can do, so what's the best? The greatest breakfast is exactly what grandma used to feed you, bacon and eggs. You can argue that bacon has nitrates, eggs have cholesterol and fat, but when it comes right down to it, they are OK. The healthy protein, fats, and cholesterol are essential nutrients we can not live without. Carbs, we can live without.

Thank you Dr Mercola
