Woodrow C. Monte, PhD, a food scientist, researcher, and Professor Emeritus of Food Science and Nutrition at Arizona State University, has just published a comprehensive book, “While Science Sleeps, a Sweetener Kills,” which is now available on Amazon.com. The book specifically solves the mystery of the cause of Multiple Sclerosis.

The book presents Dr. Monte’s lifetime of research into the nutritional causes of the major diseases of civilization. Dr. Monte has carefully and thoughtfully pieced together the scientific evidence found in hundreds of scientific studies to show convincingly that the single culprit is methanol – a molecule found primarily in canned fruits and vegetables, tomatoes, cigarette smoke, smoked foods, and the artificial sweetener aspartame. Methanol is converted by the enzyme known as Alcohol Dehydrogenase Class 1 (ADH1) into formaldehyde inside the body’s most sensitive tissues.

Each liter of diet soda contains the amount of methanol found in a pack of cigarettes, and evidence is mounting that diseases traditionally associated with smoking – such as multiple sclerosis and, most recently, heart disease and stroke – are now being associated specifically with aspartame consumption.

The human body converts dietary methanol into formaldehyde in the stomach, liver, veins and arteries, lungs, pancreas, skin, breast, and brain. Dr. Monte makes a compelling case that it is this process, and the disease that results, that is responsible for the epidemics of a variety of cancers, heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune diseases like Lupus and Multiple Sclerosis, autism, and Alzheimer’s disease that have exploded over the past thirty years since the introduction of aspartame in the summer of 1981.

More information about Dr. Monte and his work can be found on his website: www.WhileScienceSleeps.com.

This is a wonderful comment. There is much debate of the effects of omega 6's vs. wheat cosumption. What you're asking is how differences would pan out in an egg of a chicken who consumed less 6's and more wheat and the study showed this to be an improvement. Hence your research study may be providing some evidence that omega 6 consumption is worse or more damaging than wheat consumption.

I recommend providing your evidence to biochemist, Robb Wolf at robbwolf.com

A recent research indicates that when hens are fed with a diet low in omega-6 fatty acids from a young age (feed high in wheat, barley, and milo and lower in soy, maize and sunflower, safflower and maize oils) they may cause less oxidative damage to human health.
Any thoughts on this?
I'm so glad you wrote about this. I always suspected this girl had Female Athletic Triad. Whether or not she did, this could have been a great teaching moment for the entire world about its prevalence, and how teen girls are starving and abusing their bodies with exercise because of the misguided "War on Obesity" and the wrong advice to exercise for the purpose of weight loss. I heard an ED doctor say the ONLY purpose of exercise is to FEEL GOOD! Clearly, she was not feeling good, yet kept running.

Kids, parents, and coaches need to be warned of the dangers of exercising for weight loss. Exercise tends to cause very little weight loss, which is why so many people end up abusing their bodies with exercise to the extreme: because exercise doesn't work, just as diets don't work.

Instead, we need to be promoting healthy lifestyles (including normal eating, not undereating for weight loss) and physical activity for fun and to feel good. That is the recipe for health. It also prevents greater weight gain caused by undereating and then bingeing or "make-up" eating.

We need to be promoting size acceptance of people of all sizes (except for the underweight, which is so dangerous), and healthy lifestyle, not weight loss. That would be a true health message for kids to be raised on today, not the harmful focus on body size, and trying to shape the body to be a certain build or size.

The obsession with appearance is taking a terrible toll on peoples' nutrition and activity patterns. We need to promote Health At Every Size, instead. Google ASDAH for more information on this!
